U.S. M-1 "Fixed Bale" with Netting and St. Clair Liner

Netting covers the exterior of this M-1 helmet and wraps under between the shell and liner. The shell is painted a rough textured dark olive drab and has a front seam welded stainless steel rim. The “fixed bales” (immobile chinstrap loops) are in the classic rectangular McCord design and hold a cotton chinstrap with brass buckle and “J” hook. St. Clair Rubber Company manufactured the liner around 1943 and all components are intact. Its interior has steel “A” washers, twill cotton webbing, stamped buckle headband, and American Stay Co. neckband, which all fit in the early 1943 production period for St. Clair liners.1 The ASN (Army Serial Number) digits “7493” are hand painted on the right side.
