German Heer M-43 Panzer Field Cap
In 1943 the German Wehrmacht issued a new field cap to Heer (Army) troops.1 Featured here is a Model 1943, or M-43, field cap worn by a Panzer unit during World War II (1939-1945). Panzer troop caps were made of black wool instead of the traditional field-gray.2 On the front is a silver army eagle national emblem and national cockade, both woven in wire. The two badges do not have a background and are sewn directly into the cap. The cap has a neck flap that come together at the front and held together by two silver pebbled buttons. The silver piping around the crown indicates that this was worn by an officer.3 On the inside of the cap is a stamp indicating the size, 57cm. Some faint writing appears in the middle of the inside lining but can not be read.
