German M-42 Hand Painted D-Day Souvenir
This M-42 has an interior painted gray. The liner is an eight-fingered ventilated leather piece on a steel suspension system. The chinstraps are connected to the liner system with D-rings. The chin strap fastens on the right side and is a buckle-type. In the crown of the helmet, the words “Abgenommen Wehr???? Gefahrfungen (?)” are written. The line underneath this is not legible. The liner is stamped with the numbers “59,” denoting size. The exterior of the M-42 is gray-black as well. On the right side, a swastika decail is bordered by white paint. On the left side is the national eagle. On top of the helmet are the words “VERVILLE / ISIGNY / ST. LO / VIRE * / ST. GERMAIN / PERCY / LE CONQUET / RECOUVERANCE / BREST*.” On the front of the helmet, the words “NORMANDY – FRANCE / JUNE 6 1944” are written with an iron cross painted on between “JUNE 6” and “1944.” The iron cross has “CUTSHAM” or “CUTSHAN” written on it.
