German Waffen-SS "Handschar" Maroon Fez
This is a maroon fez worn by members of the Waffen-SS "Handschar" Muslim division for parade or “walking-out” wear. Featured on the front are two machine woven insignia: an SS eagle national emblem and totenkopf (death's head). Muslim SS units also wore a feldgrau (field gray) fez, but this was worn as a field cap. Muslim SS troops were allowed to wear the fez in replacement of the standard issue field cap to distinguish them from the ethnic German officers.1
