Canadian Mk III Helmet worn on D-Day
This is a British made Mark III steel helmet worn on D-Day during World War II (1939-1945) by a Canadian soldier. The shape of the Mark III is often compared to a tortoise's shell. The exterior of this helmet is painted gray over a layer of olive green paint, and a red, inverted triangle on the left side has been handpainted onto the helmet. The interior of the helmet is also painted olive green. The Mark III helmet uses the Mark III liner and chinstrap. The liner is made mostly of oil cloth and foam. while the chinstrap is an elastic weave. 1
