French NCO's Kepi of 80th Infantry Regiment
This kepi belonged to a non-commissioned officer, or sous-officier, of the 80th Infantry Regiment during the latter part of the French Third Republic (1870-1940). It has a dark blue (almost black) body with red turban and features a gold embroidered "80" unit designation on the front. The flaming grenade embossed chinstrap buttons of the Infantry are attached on each side. Also, the NCO rank is determined by the gilt false chinstrap. Other than this characteristic, NCOs wore the same cap as other ranks.1
