French Adjutant's Kepi for 12th Infantry Regiment
This is a kepi worn by an Adjutant of the 12th Infantry Regiment during the late French Third Republic (1870-1940). It has a black felt cloth body with red top, also known as the turban, and features a gold metal "12" unit designation on the front. A silver horizontal stripe with red chevrons is located where the black body meets the red turban. The combination of the gilt false chinstrap with the silver and red chevroned stripe determines the adjutant rank.1
